Emily was employed as a maid to Lady Pembroke at her home Wilton House at Regents Park London by the age of 14 or 15.
She returned to Lincolnshire and worked at Culverthorpe Hall before being sent as companion to her Aunt Hannah at Ackworth, Yorkshire".
