I have recorded this family because my family's oral history relates stories regarding John Shelbourn's Grandson, Henry Ross (b 1833) who married Charlotte Pell (Peal/ Peele) a relative of Sir Robert Peele.
Oral family history indicates the family felt shame regarding the Peal/Peele family who were cotton millers and reputedly not kind to their workers.
Mention is also made of Maud Mary Shelbourn (2XG Grand daughter of John Shelbourn) grand daughter of Henry Ross & Charlotte (nee Pell/Peele).
Maud Mary visted my grandfather's family in Denton and because of her connection with the Peele family none of the other family members in the village or nearby villages would speak to her. The visit must have been before 1918 because Robert George's father, George died in 1918 while Robert George was serving in the Great War at "the front".
I have not linked this Shelbourn family with my grandfather's line because I have not found documentary evidence of the connection.
I suspect the story is true, because Maud really did exist and her ancestory does have the Pell/Peele connection.
